The Steuben Lodge and Mother Earth Green Center is a retreat and learning center focused on sustainable living, situated on 1000 acres in Southwest Wisconsin along the Kickapoo River.
The Lodge and associated buildings are used for seminars, lectures and workshops. Along with a bed and breakfast there are overnight accommodations for 90 people.
The Mother Earth Green Center is the center point for the demonstration farm and food production. The grounds have just over 300 workable acres for organic, low input high yield food production.
Due to our involvement in the Chicago’s demolition industry it allowed us to procure unique high quality reclaimed timbers. All of our construction was done with rescued materials of which we still have an ongoing supply and inventory. We have acres of high quality building material.
On the recreational side we have two miles of Kickapoo River frontage to explore, hills to climb, birds, fish, deer and other furry and feathered friends to encounter up close. Nearby State Parks will expand your possibilities with hiking, cross country trails and camping. The Mississippi and Wisconsin River, only a stone’s throw away will satisfy any boating urges you may have. Or, just canoe on the Kickapoo.
But that is not all we have to offer. Our mission is to utilize the land and buildings for the development & promotion of organic and sustainable agriculture; to facilitate education with a constant exchange of ideas. We are well equipped to host just about any type of seminar for up to 200-300 people.
We can’t do it all and are looking for that special individual or group wanting to join this venture, take over the farming aspect or use the available spaces to develop their own projects.
There is great potential for the land here in Steuben. It is primed for full scale organic & sustainable food production; we just need people that want to grow/raise the food. We are open to any ideas of farm management or complementary business ideas.
Some of the ideas that we would like to see implemented (most of which have not been started) include but of course not limited to:
Pasture Based Animal Management
Permaculture & Biodynamic Agriculture
Sustainable Building and Low Impact Living
Ethanol and Bio-fuels Program
Other ideas to consider:
Integrated Recreational Activities
Bed & Breakfast
Aquaculture – we have a licensed trout pond
Forest – resources and Ag
30 miles away from Organic Valley Coop, La Farge, WI
Market development – transport from Madison and Chicago on a weekly basis
Housing availability of 90 overnight accommodations
Training center – 6 large and small spaces
If you are interested in speaking more about any of the above projects and resources please feel free to contact us.
